Help For Syrian Refugees

Exciting news! Through Ashford Borough Council, the South Kent Circuit will soon be letting our empty manse out as accommodation for a family of Syrian refugees who have been living for some time in a camp on the Syrian border, and who will be arriving in the UK in mid-December. This will be for an initial 12 months.

The council are appealing for help in furnishing the house ready for  their arrival.

In particular they need

  • Table and chairs to seat 6 with maybe a couple of extra dining type chairs for use of guests
  • Sideboard
  • Chests of drawers
  • Wardrobes
  • Bedside tables
  • Washing Machine
  • Fridge/Freezer
  • Book cases/occasional tables and other small furniture
  • Sofas are difficult as anything donated must conform to fire regulations and have the relevant labels but always willing to get them checked out.
  • Curtains and other soft furnishings

And of course there is the “not allowed to be provided by the council” items such as TVs, DVD players, computers etc.

In terms of toys and books anything suitable for a girl of 14, a boy of 11 and twin 5 year old boys would be welcome.

If anyone has toys or books suitable for other ages/genders we may have need of these too for the other arriving families.

If you can help in any way the contact at the council is
